Sunday 1st August saw some of the Pacers take to the fells to take part in the 8th running of the Roundhill Fell Race organised by Otley AC.  This race is approx 8.75 miles with 1,200’ of climbing but it was a perfect day for running and for appreciating the stunning scenery.  First home was Nigel “Fellboy” Craven in a time of 1:10, 6th MV50 and 51st overall followed by Dave Cooper with a new PB of 1:13 in 62nd, then Jenny Cooper flew home with a massive PB of over 17 mins in a time of 1:24, 11th in the Female Open category and last but not least was Dominic Egan, 101st overall in a time of 1:26.

Over the last few weeks there has been two record turnouts from the Pacers at two local relay races.  The first took place on a warm Friday evening up at Fewston/Swinsty reservoir and saw the Pacers entry six teams into the Washburn Valley Relay hosted by Otley AC.  Over 50 teams took part in this cracking little relay that involves teams running 3 legs of between 3 and 4 miles each.  The mixed team won the 1st Mixed Team trophy, taking it from usual winners, the Probation Service and came 6th overall.  Karen Pickles also beat the ladies record for Leg 3 by running it in a remarkable time of 20.12.  The other teams representing Pudsey finished 15th, 21st, 27th, 29th and the ladies team were 38th overall but finished 5th in the Ladies overall rankings - this is despite Leg 2 runner going an extra quarter of mile !!!

The second event took place at Golden Acre park on Wednesday 21 July on again what was a perfect evening for running.  The event saw a record breaking number of entries with 80 teams taking part, with over 7 of those being from Pudsey.  No trophies were won at this fiercely competitive race but some very good solid performances all the same, notably from Men's Vets team who came 7th overall.  The three Men's teams finished 22nd, 24th and 37th with a good recovery performance from the "Re-Cooper ators" -  Cooper, Burdon & Hardaker.  In 54th was the only mixed team entry followed by Team Woodhead in 65th and the Ladies finished in a respectable 69th - Diane Rollin running on relay debut.   Sadly, due to injury one team was recorded as DNF but this team still put in excellent times with Al Chapman doing it in 17.56 and Gary Bailey in 15.37.  Also running was Diane Wood and Dominic Egan - they ran as part of other teams in order to ensure entry into the race and both did Pudsey proud.  Diane ran in 20.25 and her team finished 30th overall and Dominic ran 20.48 and finished 43rd.

Well done everyone that took part - hope you will sign up again next year and let's see if we can break these records again in 2011!! Cheers.  Jenny (retired relay rounder upper!).
